“Light On”

We have a bedtime ritual of getting the boys to calm down, lie down, and go to sleep. I typically read some Harry Potter for the sake of Leo while Yuki and Joji lie with us.

When the boys are exhausted they get silly and energetic. Leo kindof-sortof understands that he needs to lie down, but Joji fights me tooth and nail and his main goal is to stand up and do things. This night, his primary function was to hit the lights on and off, which was quite funny but got old fast.

As I was reading Harry Potter, Leo and Joji were wrestling to see who could be closest to Yuki and I got fed up; I asked Leo what was happening in the story, and he was unable to answer since his focus had been messing with Joji.

I turned off all of the lights and said that it is time to sleep.
We lay there for about 30 seconds, and a little whisper broke the silence “light on”, and it continued, “light on. Light on. Light on. Light on. Light on.” It continued for about 20 seconds before I snorted, which revealed that I was actually awake and not angry-dad(tm), which caused everyone else to laugh. I turned the nightstand light back on.

The ridiculousness of it all was great: Joji whispering his little incantation to invoke a light spell which ended up illuminating the room for a little bit longer for everyone to get the giggles out. Nothing prompted him to whisper “light on” which made it all the more funnier.
